Exposing Barriers to Health Communication in New Jersey
This endeavor has evolved dramatically from early in the pandemic when Charles Senteio noticed a variance of perceptions relating to the causes, treatments, and beliefs about future vaccines within the Black and Latinx communities. Shortly after receiving IRB approval in May 2020, they created, and launched an initial survey to measure intra-group perceptions for the Black and Latinx communities. The group remains a partnership between SC&I and New Brunswick-based Lazos America Unida. Group members have been added from the School of Nursing, MIT, Emory and the CDC. For the long term, the group sees its work informing future investigations to address COVID-19 vaccination inequities and target messaging accordingly (e.g., rural conservative voters, rural older adults, etc.)
